A safer, more unforgettable golf course.

Ignacio Garcia’s mark on Abama Golf.

The construction of the ecologicals safety measures designed by Ignacio Garcia on the Abama Golf layout have improved the course and made a safer and more unforgettable experience.

The Abama Resort golf course is one of the best sculpted courses on the island’s volcanic terrain. It is set in a landscape with more than 25,000 palm trees, white sand bunkers and dozens of lakes connected by waterfalls. And it is widely recognized as one of the best courses created by the late Ryder Cup and European Tour stage designer Dave Thomas in his 50 years of experience on professional courses.

However, in 2022, due to the successful real estate development carried out in recent years, the resort’s leaders commissioned Spanish golf course designer Ignacio García to review the golf course layout, so that golfers, regardless of their level of play, experience the same quality standards as always in harmony with new guests and residents.

García conceived a redesign that respects nature, without altering its incomparable panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the island of La Gomera, or its immersion in nature, but full of ecological security measures that remedied the safety problems found in the original layout designed by Dave Thomas, one of the best in all of Europe.

Since then, the Property has gradually introduced the ecological security measures designed by the founder of the golf consultancy, Ignacio García Golf Arquitectura IGGA – International Office of Golf and Architecture. The results at Abama Golf have been unbeatable, the course and the practice of golf are a safer and more unforgettable experience than before, the object of recognition and deserving of several awards in these two years: “Best golf resort in the Canary Islands and third in Spain” by the European platform Leading Courses, in September 2022 and “Best luxury resort in Spain” by the World Travel Awards, the “Oscars of tourism”, in this year 2024.
