Ignacio García has been appointed to design a new 18 hole championship golf course in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea.
The economic blast-off of Equatorial Guinea, one of the countries with major growth of last decade, known as “the Kuwait of Africa” because of his oil and gas, is attracting increasingly to the western companies. The tourist sector of the country, still waiting for exploiting, is summoning the interest of international promoters who think about how to construct luxurious properties with golf course close to Europe.
Equatorial Guinea is a small natural paradise of the Central Africa that borders on Cameroon and Gabon. Country has the same time zone as most of European countries. Europeans need only five hours by plane, the half of the time of the destinations of this type in The Caribbean Sea, Indonesia or Tanzania. Also it is the only Hispanic country in the world with black majority.
In these conditions, the design of the first golf course was supervised in Equatorial Guinea. The championship golf course was designed one year earlier by Ritson Golf Design for PAC International, next to Mongomo, frontier city with Gabon, capital of the province Wele-Nzas.
The 7,655 yards long design made by Ignacio García, occupies the adjacent areas to the Hotel Mongomo and new cathedral – area: 1,304,344 square yards.
Golf design includes the swamps and dense vegetation, typical in this Continental Region of the country, one of the most humid and rainy places of the planet.
