Backing to the golf course

Cuba attends carefully the quality as a basis for the development of the tourism industry on the island and is fixed in sectors yet untapped, such as the marinas and the golf courses.

Cuba is interested in the recovery of hotels and shopping centers. But also in the construction of the best marinas and golf courses in the Caribbean sea.

Sources of the Tourism Ministry MINTUR have assured the Granma newspaper that Cuba before 1959 had got the largest number of golf courses in the Caribbean and the projects now are trying to regain this practice. At present, the island has a golf course 18-hole in Varadero and 9-hole in Havana.

However, soon there could be more than a dozen.

In these moments it is planned the development of more than 10 golf courses in Cuba. Some projects meet all technical requirements and expect green light to the works, like the golf course and club house designed by Ignacio García in Cayo Santa María, Villa Clara. A promoted investments by the Cuban group Seagull with environmental license to transform the grounds of the old sugar mill at Dolores in a magnificent golf course of international level.

Commercial Director of the Ministry of Tourism MINTUR, Manuel Bisbé – “At present there are approximately 15 development areas in the country, the capital, the beach of Varadero, Villa Clara, Jardines del Rey, Santa Lucía, Holguín, Baracoa and Santiago de Cuba, among other places. Noted as the main pole to Varadero with 33.1 percent of the operations and 20 thousand 200 hotel rooms, followed by Havana with 22 percent and 12 thousand 816 rooms and in third place Cayo Santa Maria with the 10 percent and 5 thousand 864 rooms”.
